Hillside First School

School Meals

Children have the choice of having packed lunches or hot meals.  Hot meals need to be ordered in advance.  Chartwells is our provider of hot meals and there is always a choice of a main meal, jacket potato or a vegetarian option.

Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to Universal Infant Free School Meals.  If your child is in Year 3 or Year 4, hot school meals are payable directly to Chartwells.

To register your child’s details with Chartwells or login into your account, please click here

All the children sit together in the hall for lunch regardless of whether they are having hot lunch or not.  We encourage them to eat as much of their meal as possible and to try a bit of everything. A drink of water is always supplied for those having hot lunches.

Please see below current menu and instructions on how to order meals.

Who can get free school meals?

Your child may be able to get free school meals if you get any of the following:

  • Income Support
  • Income-based Jobseeker's Allowance
  • Income-related Employment and Support Allowance
  • Support under part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999
  • The guaranteed element of Pension Credit
  • Child Tax Credit; this is as long as you're not entitled to Working Tax Credit and your annual gross income is no more than £16,190
  • Working Tax Credit 'run-on' payment (paid for 4 weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit)
  • Universal Credit: this is as long as your household income is less than £7,400 a year (after tax and not including any benefits you get)

Children who are paid these benefits directly, instead of through a parent or carer, can also get free school meals.

If your child is eligible for free school meals now, they will continue to receive free school meals until at least 31 March 2022.

When you complete an online application school staff don't see any specific information about your income or the benefits you receive.
